FASHION MOVIES YOU NEED TO WATCH
Get your popcorn ready because we are about to get into fashion movies. Fashion is a way of expressing yourself, transmitting an idea or just having fun when you dress. Fashion has always been a big part of society reflecting social and cultural changes over time.
Why do I love fashion movies? I love fashion movies because how they dress represents where the movie is or from what time it is. I consider that if you are a fashion lover, follower, etc you need to watch these movies in order to have another perspective of fashion design.
Let's start with one of the classic ones “The Devil Wears Prada” (2006). This particular movie resonates with me since I did not study anything related to fashion, but always wanted that fashion related dream job. This movie is the story of how hard the fashion industry can be, while at the same time how rewarding it can be. When I personally don’t feel like continuing to work in the fashion industry I watch this movie to motivate me and keep me going.
Fashion movies are not always about costumes. Sometimes they narrate the story of a fashion icon, like “Coco Before Chanel” (2009). This movie is the story of how she founded a fashion house that redefined the classic pieces of a women’s wardrobe.
From a different fashion perspective comes “Confessions of a Shopaholic” (2009). This movie comes from a place of how customers see some fashion icons and the need or urgency it creates in people to buy something right away. It also shows how people struggle to be on top of fashion and what they are willing to risk in order to get these products.
Another one, and personal favorite, is “Cruella” (2021). This movie is kind of a sequel from “101 Dalmatians”, but this time from the perspective of the villain. This movie expresses how a fashion designer often introduces something, in this case dark colors, that can change the course of fashion and can become the start of a new era.
Lastly comes “House of Gucci” (2021). I’m a fan of Gucci fashion house so I really took this movie to heart. It tells the story of how the brand was made and what it takes to make a brand recognizable in the fashion industry. However, my favorite part is how they showcased vintage Gucci pieces and how they helped tell a story.
Even though there are many more fashion movies, these are at the top of my list. Other movies that you can watch are: “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, “Crazy Rich Asians”, “Barbie”, Clueless”, and “Sex and the City series”. Remember, not all fashion movies are about showing off great style. Others are more about history or just trying to help you navigate the fashion world.
