FAVORITE BEACHES IN PUERTO RICO
Every time I say I live in Puerto Rico people say “you are so lucky to have some of the best beaches in the world”. Today I want to share my favorite beaches so when you come to visit you have a guide to follow.
The best beach in Puerto Rico is definitely Flamenco Beach located in Culebra, a small archipelago to the East. Before you ask, the only way of getting there is by ferry or plane. If you choose to go by ferry you can purchase tickets online. If you want to go on a plane I have personally never gone so I can’t recommend a specific company. Anyhow, you are going to fall in love with the beautiful turquoise water. If you decide to make the trip my recommendation is to stay the night since its kind of a lot for a day trip.
Another personal favorite is Cayo Icacos. This uninhabited island is located off the coast of Fajardo. The water here is also to die for. The only way to get here is by water taxi or private boat. If you have a chance to go don’t miss the chance to snorkel. Keep in mind this is a whole day activity.
My favorite beach to go to on a road trip coming from San Juan is Combate Beach. It’s a two (2) hour drive from San Juan and is located on the southwest coast in Cabo Rojo. This beach is so relaxing because there are barely any waves, if there even is one. My favorite thing to do here is put my beach chair in the water and enjoy the day by the water.
If you don’t want to go that far and want to stay in the metropolitan area, my go to beach is Ocean Park. This is located in San Juan in a neighborhood called Ocean Park. I like to access this beach through the gated community which is open during the day for this purpose. While you are there you can go to a really nice restaurant called Número Uno Beach House if you want to eat something while you watch the sunset.
Puerto Rico truly has spectacular beaches. I can go on and on recommending many more, but these are my go to. I really hope this helps you with some ideas of beaches you can go to. Oh and by the way, something I always get asked is if you should rent a car. My answer is yes. If you plan on trying to get the best of your visit you need a car. I hope you enjoy Puerto Rico as much as I love to live here.
